As a photographer, some of the most enchanting moments I get to capture are the ones where unforeseen circumstances lead to unexpected beauty. Morgan, a dear friend and former colleague from the school where I taught, had eagerly chosen me to document her maternity shoot. Our friendship had blossomed through casual conversations in the copy room, sharing anecdotes about our growing families.

The plan was set to photograph her maternity session at Hurricane Ridge, a location both she and her husband cherished for its breathtaking scenery. However, fate had a different course for us that day. On my way to the Ridge, a quick check revealed that the area was limiting visitors due to wildfire-related restrictions, often reaching maximum capacity by noon. Our session was scheduled for the evening, leaving us with a sudden change of plans.

In a flurry of quick decisions, I reached out to a local photographer friend familiar with the Port Angeles area, desperately seeking alternative locations. Fortunately, she came through with a recommendation. I immediately contacted Morgan, conveying the news. Naturally disappointed, she placed her trust in me to find an equally stunning location to capture this precious moment.

We ventured to the new spot, a hidden gem that boasted a breathtaking peek-a-boo view of the mountains. As the golden hour approached, casting its ethereal light, the beauty of the surroundings enveloped us. The serenity of the setting blended perfectly with Morgan’s radiant glow, capturing the essence of her anticipation and joy as she awaited the arrival of her new little one.
